Wow.. Ben 10 must be really hot these days. Friends have been asking me to please help them make a Ben 10 cake for their dear sons. I’m oblivious cos with Nic, 5 and Nat, 3, it’s been princess this princess that for everything! Perhaps, things will change in 4 years time when Nevan turns 5. Then again, would I be letting him watch cartoons with aliens flying around? Probably not.. I even ban Spongebob for its language.
But I had fun reconstructing the Ben 10 watch using Chocolate on top of the cakes. I would love to put pics up but hmm.. probably a bad idea!

This year Caleb (my nephew) was very much into being a soldier.. I guess got rubbed off cos his daddy kept getting recalled for Reservist (yup.. “lucky” man and poor preggy sis). As usual, we were cracking our heads over the choice of cake to use. Wanted to use the carrot cake but since we fed the same crowd that, just 1 week ago during sis’ birthday, we fell back on Tiramisu. Why? Cos the use of the cocoa dusting on top of the cake complemented greatly with my battlefield concept! Now.. I must have been insane to even take this path and till last nite was still asking myself.. do i want to do a switch? Due to the texture of my tiramisu, I was so so so afraid the soldiers would quicksand into the cake before we got to the cake cutting! A few men collapsed when we were driving over to the party cos hubby went over humps “bumpity bump” with me shrieking “eh! slow down! another hump!” ! We survived the ride! Wasn’t as bad as I thought but it sure caused me much much undue stress and tons of prayers (God wanted me to pray more?? hehe)..! Would have been much better with the carrot cake…

Moist, fluffy, soft, carrot cake with cream cheese frosting! Strands of real carrots, plump rum-filled raisins, pineapples and macademia nuts (well I deviated from the usual walnuts cos they tend to be bitter), nicely spiced with cinnamon.

I was thinking what theme for a bunch of ladies celebrating their birthday in the month of May. And I thought of what birthday present I would have liked. With 3 kids, the idea of a beach resort was high on the list. Believe or not, I’ve never been to Koh Samui or Langkawi, cos hubby is not a beach person so I’ll feel it’s a waste of money to go to a beach resort and do nothing…. So I decided to send these ladies to a beach holiday lazing on the beach, buried in a sand bath spa, windsurfing the waves, amidst cabanas and coconut trees. How can we also forget our delish belgian sea shells! Ooos and aahhs were heard from the delighted ladies when the cake was unveiled. A rich, moist chocolate cake buried in chocolate frosting!

Sarah picked out a piglet at a Taka fair Very decisively. No other members of the Pooh Bear family could distract her or take her away from Piglet. That was like 2 weeks before her birthday which set the entire theme for her one year old birthday party! A multi layer mango mousse cake packed with mango puree. I decided it wasn’t enough and laid mango bits on top of the mousse at every layer. Call me Kia su!

Caleb’s cake was more challenging. His requests mutated by the week from Elmo driving a convertible, to fighter planes to finally F1! Everyone loved the flags! Strawberry fresh cream cake with strawberry slices in between vanilla sponge. Don’t ask me how much this weighs.. ![]()
